Too Artsy For The Hood Kids, Too Hood For The Artsy Kids
Portsmouth-based creative Baby Panna today released his latest single Too Artsy For The Hood Kids, Too Hood For The Artsy Kids.
Too Artsy For The Hood Kids, Too Hood For The Artsy Kids is nothing short of an anthem. Produced by Kipper, TAFTHK,THFTAK features vibey keys, tempo changes and clean samples, which - in conjunction with Panna’s smooth vocals - combines to create a great UK chill hop record.
It is Panna’s messaging that makes this track what it is, though. Too Artsy For The Hood Kids, Too Hood For The Artsy Kids is the perfect articulation, spoken like a real thoro’bred, that describes being neither a jock nor a burnout as per Penelope Eckert’s 1989 sociological study, but residing in the in-between space - never truly fitting in with either archetype, and eventually having to carve one’s own path. Panna references the contrasting lifestyles of wearing Nike Tech tracksuits yet going to watch the orchestra, or smoking a zoot in a car park before heading into the Barbican for some art & culture. Though, all the while assuring any doubters “I may be too artsy for the hood kids, but they’ll still back me today”.
“For those who champion their true selves over following the crowd. This song is for you!”
Panna says of the track “For those in the middle. For the awkward ones. For the ones who fit into so many spaces that they don’t fit into any. For the individuals. For those on a journey of self discovery. For those who champion their true selves over following the crowd. This song is for you!”
Too Artsy For The Hood Kids, Too Hood For The Artsy Kids is just the latest snippet of Baby Panna’s catalogue, and we’re eager to hear what he comes out with next. But, for now, TAFTHK,THFTAK is on repeat for the rest of September at least.
